Carlota Fernandes

My name is Carlota Fernandes. I’m a 17 year old Social Economics student. Since I was younger I have had many distinguished likes, for example, drawing, sports, maths, space and socializing with friends and family.

Last year I was nominated the best companion of my school by the Rotary Club and, due to that, lived amazing moments. I’m also a volunteer in many different associations.

The best accomplishment of last year was winning the Odysseus II Contest, hosted by the European Space Agency, which brought me incredible international experiences.

Diogo Goncalves

My name is Diogo Goncalves and I am a 17 year old Science and Technology student. I surf, skate, sail, practice kung fu and I’m finishing the conservatoire in cello this year. My main hobbies are electronics and informatics; I’m self-thought in these two areas and want to study them in the future as a professional career. Catarina Alves

My name is Catarina Alves, I have 20 years old and I am from Portugal. Currently I am studying Physics at University of Porto. My main interests are theoretical and computational Physics, Astronomy and Statistics. I have participated in contests of Math, Physics, Astronomy, Economy, Engineering, Poetry and Literature. I won some and I learned a lot in every one. Presently, I am doing an internship at Centro de Astronomia da Universidade do Porto about Cosmological models for the acceleration of the universe and the variation of the fundamental constants of nature. In my spare time, I like debating, programming and hanging out with friends. I am also a scout

Tomás Silva

I am currently in my third-year at the study programme of Physics with a minor in Astronomy at the University of Porto, Portugal. I have always been interested in Science and I have a special passion for Astrophysics. The cosmos fascinates me. Since I was a child, I love to observe the night sky… I’m a curious person and a free-thinker. I love to learn and I need to know “why” everything happens. At this moment I’m also doing an internship at the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) where we study topics like the characterization of proprieties of dark energy and astrophysical methods that test the stability of fundamental constants of nature.

Barbora Bezděková

I come from a small town located in the central Moravia (one of three parts of the Czech Republic) called Vyškov. I have been studying The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University (Prague, The Czech Republic). The focus of my research at university is cosmic physics. Main part of my work concentrates on analysis of data measured by the French low-altitude spacecraft DEMETER (Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake Regions), which operated between 2004 and 2010 at altitudes around 700 km. I investigate electromagnetic waves measured by this satellite called magnetospheric line radiation and quasiperiodic emissions.

During my studies, I have several times presented the results of my research. In 2015 and 2016 I participated the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly, in 2015 also the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) General Assembly, where I showed posters about both types of investigated phenomena. Finally, in September 2016 I had a paper at conference VLF/ELF Remote Sensing of Ionospheres and Magnetospheres (VERSIM).
